Age & Weight

A quick local note: The age and weight schematic is not intended to prevent any child from playing, rather to ensure fairness and safety. Players are placed in divisions that allow for their growth. For example, a child that is at the upper edge of division can move to the next highest division to ensure they fall within the specified weight range during the season, and would therefore never be in jeopardy of exceeding their division's weight requirements. Every player in the Vancouver Pop Warner league plays in every game!   View the age and weight schematic for more information.

  1. Age: The age considered for division placement is based on the age the player is as of July 31 of the playing season. For example, if a is 12 years old and their birthday is after August 1st, their playing age for the season is 12. Depending on their weight and skill level, they could play in one of 3 divisions.
  2. Weight: All players are allowed an in-season growth of 9 lbs. Thus, if they are a Junior Midget and they weight 125 lbs at the beginning of the season, they are allowed to gain 9 lbs, 1 lb per week, to the final weight of 134 lbs.
  3. Weigh In: All weights listed above are without gear. Weigh ins are full dress and a weight allowance is subtracted for gear.
  4. O/L Players: Older but Lighter players are allowed. For example, if a player is 13 years old on or before July 31, and they weigh between 80 and 105 lbs, then they would qualify as an Older but Lighter player in the Junior Midget division. These players are also allowed an in-season weight gain of 9 lbs.
  5. Vancouver Divisions: All divisions are open for registration. Participants will be placed in divisions by the league based on their age, weight, and previous tackle football experience. If a player desired division doesn't fill, they may be moved to the next highest or lowest division, depending on which fits their age and weight. If a player's age or weight prohibits them from being moved to a different division, then a refund will be granted.
  6. National: The age schematic is used nationally so teams from other regions are always matched against similar sized players.
  7. Benefits: All players are eligible for any position. Similar weights keep children safe and allow players to learn any position regardless of size.
